Many people just let them flower and that is absolutely fine too but the flowers will be smaller which is what you may prefer

Clumps can be easily split in autumn or early spring and should be divided every few years to ensure they continue to flower strongly
Knautia macedonica | Red Cherries biennial While most foxgloves are biennialsKnautia macedonica is a perennial that has masses of crimson coloured pincushion flowers, which are about 3 4cm in size and blooming from early summer right through into autumn. If it likes where you have positioned it, you will find that this floriferous plant will self sow. Preferred growing conditions are medium moisture but well drained in full sun. Once established Knautia are quite drought tolerant. An excellent cut flower that also looks great
