アムステルダムを拠点に、様々な地域や作家らと協働しながら、デザインスタジオやアーティストユニット、キュレーター、出版社など、伝統的なカテゴリーや枠組み、労働様式に捉われない活動を続ける「スタジオ・ザ・フューチャー（​​Studio The Future）」による作品集。本作は、日本の文脈における外部／周縁の概念についての視覚的研究／批評。スタジオ・ザ・フューチャーは過去9年間で、7つのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プログラムを立ち上げ、様々なプログラムの創設に携わってきました。この間、大都市圏の外側で何が起きているのかを理解する知識や意欲が欠如していることに直面してきた彼らは、このことにもう少し焦点を当てるため、新しいプロジェクトやコラボレーションを積極的に立ち上げている日本の4つの異なる地域（嘉麻、小値賀、八女、湯沢）を訪れ、本書においてその旅を記録しています。
