Traditionally they are also the guardians of Buddhist temples, known for their wisdom and courage and ability to ward off evil. Each luohan is shown in a different pose and is named accordingly. This one is seated with his hands folded inside his robes in a meditative state. Perfect as an ornament to bring peace and calm either indoors or outside.
