2015年、ロンドンで開催された巡回展「Gathered Leaves：Photographs by Alec Soth」に伴い刊行されたボックスセット『GATHERED LEAVES』は、作者が過去に刊行した名作4冊のミニサイズ版が函に納められており、好評のうちに完売した。その続編である本作は、2022年に刊行された作品集『A POUND OF PICTURES』が加わり、5冊の代表作が700ページ以上におよぶ1冊の作品集として濃密に纏め上げられている。5冊の作品集全てが軽やかなニュースプリント（新聞紙 / 更紙）の見開きで堪能できるようになっており、更にそこにタイトルに加えられた『ANNOTATED（注釈付）』の文字通り、メモやノート、テキストの抜粋、写真が追加で掲載され、オリジナル版の『GATHERED LEAVES』がアップデートされた形で再構成されている。また、作品を辿るためのロードマップとして、作者本人による序文も書き下ろされ、表紙にも地図が採用されている。
