These jars very often did not have lids or shared lids with other containers when in use
Antique Japanese Taisho Era c1920's Keyaki Wood Haribako Sewing Tansu 12" Chinese This is an antique JapaneseThis is an early Showa vintage (c. 1930's) (sewing box) with an arrangement of three exterior drawers. The lidded top section is divided into two areas. This type of tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding. This haribako has Keyaki (zelkova Japanese Elm) wood exteriors and paulownia (kiri) wood drawer interiors. Great skill was used in the workmanship in this chest.
