1冊目は、ル・コルビュジエがこのチャンディーガルのプロジェクトのためにインドのパンジャーブ州を2週間訪れた時に持っていたノートを再現したもの。メモやスケッチ、個人的な考察、ミーティング中に細かく練られた覚書や図式化された解決案が記されています。裏写りやインクの染みのようなものまで忠実に再現され、ル・コルビュジエのノートを忠実に再現したレプリカのような一冊です。2冊目ではピエール・ジャンヌレがこの初期調査の期間に撮影したこれまで未公開であった写真群を掲載。本書の著者である建築史家のマリステッラ・カシアト（Maristella Casciato）のエッセイでは、ノートにまとめられた多様な内容を追いながら、新たな首都が構築されていった当時の物語を振り返ります。
