Japanese Meiji Cloisonne Shippo Baluster Vase Cobalt Black Butterfly Floral 5"H Funadansu Japanese figural kanban (看板) —Cloisonn Enamel Baluster Vase Shippo Cobalt and Black Ground Butterfly and Floral Japan, Meiji Period, late 19thearly 20th century A baluster form cloisonn vase on a two tone cobalt blue and black ground, the two fields divided diagonally by a turquoise beaded wire line. The cobalt field is decorated with polychrome floral sprays and scrolling foliate tendrils; the black field carries butterflies and scattered flowers in white, yellow, red, and green.
