At that point, hardcore's biggest bands, in Boston and maybe even the entire country, were from the youth crew revival scene. While AN members were involved in that, they conjured up something completely different. It was dark and abrasive and had vulnerable lyrics, pulling equally from hardcore as it was from bands like The Smiths. They quickly become the most popular hardcore
