Constructed of aluminum, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse with a central raised mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of FR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ (FOR MERIT IN AIR DEFENCE), the reverse with a central raised date of 1938, unmarked, measuring 38.
