Cassowary - Capturing Nature Print Size:A2 4kg approxA charming and evocative part of the Australian Museum's history, this is a photograph of the first cassowary in the AM collection. The bird was acquired from G Randall Johnson, who collected it near Rockingham Bay, Far North Queensland, in 1866. For a time it was believed to be a species distinct from the Casuarius australis shot and named in 1854 by naturalist Thomas Wall (who had perished before he could transport the skin).
