Hopp (1878 1972) moved to London in 1902 at the age of 24, and later and became one of the most important portrait and documentary photographers of his time. Published in 1913, this set of photo prints, "Studies from the Russian Ballet", is the photographers first major publication. At a time when ballet was highly popular, Hopp photographed most of the leading members of Serge Diaghilevs Russian Ballet in London.
