A circular medal constructed of zinc, the obverse bears a Heer style German eagle with outstretched wings clutching a swastika in its talons, the reverse bears the inscription WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941 42 (WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941 42), topped by a Stahlhelm and a stick grenade, with loop for suspension, measuring 35. 64 mm (w) x 43. 89 mm (h), on a red ribbon with a black and white stripe, fine.
