They were founded and fronted by Quorthon who led the band for their entire existence until his tragic death in 2004. During their time together, Bathory released 12 albums. Their earlier material laid the groundwork for the entire genre of black metal, but by the time the 90s rolled around they found themselves moving towards a new sound
