This chest was made in the mid Meiji era (1868 1912) of keyaki (zelkova Japanese elm) front and sugi (cryptomeria) interiors in two parts. Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This tansu chest is made with pegged tenon open mortise corner box joint construction.
